The emotional atmospheres evoked by Raspail are as invitingly shadowy and enticing as the lush green woodlands of the album’s booklet photography, and worlds apart from the callow melodramatics of the legions of darkness-fixated goth bands, who’d sell their souls to sound like Arcana if only they had the imagination. Raspail is highly recommended to all those whose inclinations towards the dark side are refracted through subtlety and intelligence.

Four years after the release of their last full-length album "Raspail", and following their "Emerald" EP released earlier this year, ARCANA now offers us brand new material on their 7th full-length album. As accustomed from this legendary act we are graced with Peter Bjärgö’s solemn voice echoing through the blend of strings, guitars, piano and a variety of percussion instruments. Ann-Mari Thim’s beautiful, picturesque soprano floats through the air together with Núria Luis’ emotional violin and Cecilia Bjärgö’s soft, mellow alto blends in with Mattias Borgh’s and Sergio Gamez Martinez’ percussive rhythms. As Bright as a Thousand Suns is a sincere and sapience filled opus from a mature collective, ten diverse songs of thoughts and emotions on one album of pure splendour.

Peter Bjargo and Gustaf Hildebrand collaborate on an album that marks a significant departure in style for both parties. Abstract electronic beats and rhythms collide with occultism and brooding ambiances to conjure up images of secret societies, locked away in candle lit chambers below street level, performing rituals the outside worldis blissfully unaware of. A unique fusion of ambient, ritual and electronic elements, it offers a glimpse into a world just out of reach, a world where the state religion was penned by Aleister Crowley and where esoteric symbols have the power to influence both mind and body.
