Theologian : Finding Comfort In Overwhelming Negativity [2012]

1     Fighting For Nothing                                        11:19
2     All I See Is You                                                11:11
3     Finding Comfort In Overwhelming Negativity     15:08
4     In The Moral Leper Colony                               14:40

I've been listening to the album on repeat for a couple hours now, and it's fair to say that my expectations have been greatly exceeded. This album is everything I was expecting and more. Much more. It can be difficult to do anything in the field of dark ambient that sounds particularly new or groundbreaking, but Finding Comfort in Overwhelming Negativity is like nothing I've ever heard before. It is as bleak and dark as anything I've heard, but what separates it from the pack is the emotion that Leech has obviously put into this record. One can only manipulate and warp synths and electronics in so many ways, but Theologian has managed to put so much of himself into this record that I have a hard time listening to it without being physically and emotionally moved in various ways. The hard-edged synths on the first track, "Fighting For Nothing" provide that almost monolithic death industrial vibe that fans of Navicon Torture Technologies will recognize, and as you're dragged through the dense, repetitive power electronics of this record, you get the feeling on numerous occasions that perhaps the record is not as much of a downer as the title would indicate. But time and again that suspicion is proven wrong, as you are inevitably dragged through the depths of resentment, hatred, despair, and finally, hopelessness.

Theologian vs Ancient Methods : La Saignee [2016]

01     Death Elemental    (Theologian)           13:33
02     A German Love     (Ancient Methods)     6:02
03     Built On Scars       (Ancient Methods)     5:55

metaphysik brings Ancient Methods and Theologian together into one sphere, with the intention to juxtapose their energy and aesthetic elements alike. As both commenced as strangers and worked separately, the split has developed, gravitating naturally towards the themes of love and death.
The split release comes in a screen printed sleeve. Each copy is hand numbered up to 400. A special blood print is reserved for the first 100 copies and only available through metaphysik.

Theologian : A Life Of Constant Struggle [2009]

Just about everyone with even a passing interest in Dark Ambient, Death Industrial or Power Electronics will be familiar with Lee Bartow, if not by name then by his moniker of Leech or his most well known project Navicon Torture Technologies. Sadly, that one is RIP, but Leech continues to record with different groups and under different guises. One that caught me off guard was this one, Theologian.

Within the first few minutes of tape opener “This Is Wrong”, you’ll peg this immediately as one of Leech’s’ projects, you’ll also notice hardcore Atrax Morgue worship. The delayed, reverb-heavy vocals reminiscent of the classic NTT style, but the multiple-layered ambience of that sound has been replaced by more aggressive and minimal synth loops and rhythms. Not to imply that it’s boring, quite the opposite, just that where NTT is more brooding and ominous, Theologian comes across more ‘in your face’ and confrontational. Tracks like “The Last Grain In The Hourglass” could almost be labeled straight PE if the vocals were more distorted.

A1 This Is Wrong
A2 Confined To Quarters
B1 The Last Grain In The Hourglass
B2 Severity

Notes▼
Released in an edition of 50. The tape comes in a black medical grade ziplock bag, with a 6x6 professionally printed insert, a Theologian sticker, and a pair of black latex gloves.

Xenonics K-30 : Automated [2002]

...automated uses trademark stamp of "power electronics" merely as a tool, as one of the music devices. in its best moments the album acquires a quality of a soundtrack, building almost cinematic atmosphere that at times explodes with unbridling violence of clashing noisy blasts, or slowly builds a droning heavy textures out of shifting hydraulics, processed heavy machinery, cold vibrating frequencies, and even a string here and there among the clouds of dark electronics. you might have to pick and choose, hunting moments here and there, but for some reason (perhaps because by this time the atmosphere has settled in, or because they are indeed different) last four tracks are my favorite, varying between merciless power rhythms of dyplastoid and incredibly mesmerizing heavy sci-fi textures of G.M.A.S. (an absolute favorite of mine)

The final and definitive double CD release from NTT, The Gospels
of the Gash chronicles one man's journey into a world devoid of
light or hope. This is a place where the air is alive with the stink of pain
and the beating of great black wings.
Two two discs compile material from a slew of limited releases
from 2005-2007, as well as newer tracks recorded specifically for this release.
As a result, Gospels of the Gash is unquestionably the most
complete NTT recording to date and nothing short of a monumental
achievement...
A culmination of the best aspects of past releases combined into
an epic odyssey of apocalyptic atmospheres, brutish frequencies,
harrowing darkness, and razor sharp vocals.
The Gospels of the Gash includes collaborations with Isomer and
Steel Hook Prostheses and was mastered by STROM.ec.
Packaged in a two-tray DVDigipak with layout and artwork by
Leech and Jorden Haley, this release is a fitting funerary rite
for NTT.

HIGHLY RECOMMENDED!
