Young German fellow Tim Kasten seems to have a boring private life. Highly active under his main project [ORGANIC_CAGE], with which he recently signed a deal with the well-known Denver-based Vendetta-Music label, he could investigate enough time to build a side-project, with which he continues his path under the small Soviet Media Kontrol-label. "Devastation Panorama" is of course heavily influenced by Tim’s previous discovered musical experiences and you shouldn't expect a drastic change of direction stylistically. Whereas his main project offers harsh and forward-moving rhythmic Powernoise efforts, he slows down the speed to install more Ambient-related, ominous sounding layers combined with his abrasive rhythm patterns.

These new 14 tracks therefore offer room for some additional experiments of a disruptive rhythm work, which can be combined with his efforts of his main project. If it is really necessary to build this side-project, perhaps it depends on the ear of the listener. "Devastation Panorama" itself is attractively produced enough to convince, while stylistically not too far away from [ORGANIC_CAGE]. Better said, I tend to encourage Tim, not to forget to integrate a noticeable doze of good ideas and moments of this album ("Amplify My Horrors") into the sound environment of his main project at the recording session of the next [ORGANIC_CAGE] album.

...one of Italy's finest Black Ambient master. The main concept and transpiring feeling of this album and the title "Whispers of the approaching wastefulness" can best be described as the "steps" or "journey" leading to the acknowledgment of the approaching end of all things. "Whispers" represent doubts and thoughts about the prevalent decadence that is around and deep within us and "wastefulness" translates to the imminent, definitive end of all things, to oblivion...

Land:Fire is the more clinical technical project of Henry Emich and Frank Merten, the men behind Herbst9. Land:Fire produce ritual technical ambient music, if this is possible. Sound layers of real brilliance which leave no room for a way back to archaic orchestration. This album is a documentation and a reflection of the historical instant of 5:29:45 a.m. on July 16. 1945 when the first atomic device, "Trinity", detonated.

Alter ego of the German dark ambient project, Herbst9. Metallic, distorted industrial sounds clash with dark ambience.  More disturbing than gloomy.   Industrial dark ambient at its best... [sk@ds]

With this stunning collaboration the dark cavernous drones and ethnic-ritual instrumentation of Herbst9 melts with the complex and percussive sounds of industrial pioneer and master of rhythmata Z´ev. Ten tracks of deep spheres and blazing luminescence will propel you into a swirling void of aural effects and demonic resonance. Both projects worked with the raw material of each other while the final mix was made by Herbst9. The result is a sombre and meditative soundtrack constructed with gongs, choral textures, deep vibrating strings and scraping sounds-effects reaching a climax with an outburst of tribalistic sequences and rhythmic percussion. An impressive and gripping journey through bleak landscapes and abandoned places...

Penjaga Insaf : Sama Sadja [2010] | FLAC

Penjaga Insaf is a duo made of Henry Emich (Herbst9 / Land:Fire) and I. Sauerbrey. Their sound is a fusion with dark ambience, field recordings, ritual acts, spiritual chants and weird atmospheres.

For several years Ingo Sauerbrey made extensive travels through Indonesia, always carrying recording equipment to collect sounds as an audio diary. During periodic return trips to Germany, he started to work on the recordings with electronic devices. Some sounds were edited, cut and transformed, while others were kept completely intact. To name a few sound sources only recordings from Water Puppet and Shadow Theatres, Gamelan and various welcoming and fighting dances like Kecak, Jegog and the Tarian Caci were used for this album. Some of those impressive performances were made of 60 to 90 men chanting and dancing while a bamboo orchestra used 4 meter long bamboo sticks playing bass drums on it. SAMA SADJA is waving together the sounds of living traditions, religions and languages with spherical ambient pads and electronically edited drones from the field recordings. This is an contemplative and intimate soundtrack from the deepest heart of South East Asia.

FYI, I'm half-Indonesian and this band's name, album and tracks are all in Indonesian languange. Penjaga Insaf literally means 'Remorseful Guard'. See the meaning of each track in the bracket next to it. [sk@ds]

Tzolk'in : Tonatiuh [2010]

1 Tonatiuh 8:51
2 Quetzacoatl 7:28
3 Mictlantecuhtli 5:12
4 Tezcatlipoca 6:07
5 Tlazolteotl 6:17
6 Xipe Totec 6:39
7 Nanahuatzin 8:15

“Tonatiuh”, the newest album from this collaborative project between Empusae and Flint Glass, does have one thing in common with mantra music of this sort: atmosphere. Of course, the oppressive humidity of untamed jungles is hardly the same as the glittering, rainbow-spattered waterfalls and soft bird calls that the weak of purpose pursue so wholeheartedly, and it is that unbridled ferocity that lurks within the sweeping vistas painted by this pair, peppered with neo-primitive rhythms that excite the soul and unleash adrenal secretions in the listener. Mood music? Definitely. Just not the mediocre, safe moods society would have us celebrate. This album activates a hidden aspect of the subconscious, a primitive memory-form that recalls the bloody daily struggle between man and nature – not for supremacy, but simply for survival. Powerful, stirring stuff, indeed.

The Aztec imagery in the track listing (from “Mictlantecuhtli” through to “Quetzalcoatl”, an entire pantheon of Mesoamerican gods are present) and the album artwork, not to mention the very name Tzolk’in being lifted from the very calendar that predicts the end of the world in just under two years, remains perfectly valid, however. As the press release so cheerfully points out, it is estimated that approximately 20,000 human sacrifices were performed by this enigmatic civilisation annually at its peak, and the blood fever associated with this is an undeniable presence looming behind the creeping advance of Tzolk’in’s music.

The broad spectrum of sounds created by Tzolk’in on “Tonatiuh” will appeal to followers of industrial, ambient and even some psytrance; it’s a wonderful illustration of tribal sensibilities, executed in a contemporary, cutting-edge electronic medium. That said, wearers of tie-dyed shirts, salon-matted dreadlocks and other alien abductees may not have the stomach for this beautifully chilling record…

...GREYHOUND have created a soundtrack of aggressive rhythms and threatening atmospheres. Hard, pounding distorted beats and heavily distorted sounds are melted to the unique mixture GREYHOUND have become well known for. Changing pulses, information overload, the surveillance fight and fast-moving life resonates in each second...

Top-notch, high-quality power noise by this talented German - Steffen Lehmann. Very few can match the album's intensity, complexity, harshness + creativity. One of the genre's best releases in 2009.

Kraftwerk : Minimum Maximum Live | 2 x DVD

A double DVD set featuring the full live set from Kraftwerk's 2004-2005 World Tour in PCM stereo and DTS 5.1 surround sound. Over 20 tracks, too many stone-cold classics to mention complete with spine-tingling visuals and brilliantly captured audio (as previously noted, some of these track variants are just genius - check 'Numbers' just for a start) and perhaps most intriguing - close-ups here and there of these four German gentlemen handling their laptops (not just checking their e-mails, contrary to popular wisdom) and bringing to life some of the most unforgettable pop songs ever written. Genius.
