Skin Area : Journal Noir / Lithium Path ( 2 x CD Limited Edition) [2006]

Epic. A word normally associated with film but applicable here to this release. Only instead of a Peter Jackson visual kaleidoscope this is more akin to an Andy Warhol five hour avant-garde production. A double CD release that leaves the listener with more questions than answers. And none the wiser despite repeated plays. The debate to its musical merits will continue for a long time. But will anyone really care in the end? The answer is that you all should. For this labour of love… years in the making… is one of the most challenging and perplexing releases of this, or even for that matter, any past and future releases.

What Martin Bladh (IRM) and Magnus Lindh, with contributions from Carl Abrahamsson, Anne-Marie Thim (Arcana) and others, has achieved with "Journal Noir / Lithium Path" is the ritual tearing up of the rule book. In comes a visionary alternative music updated for the ‘here and now’...

Disc 1 originally released on Broken Flag as a tape with the title "S.F.A.G. 81". In the early 90's Tegal Records released a non-authorised "truncated" version on CD, but this new version on OEC maintains the integrity of the entire work and was completely digitally remastered.

The original album is accompanied by a second CD with three de-compositions using extracts of the original S.F.A.G. recordings.

IRM : Red Album [1999]

IRM is a Swedish industrial / power electronics project that should be well-known to anyone familiar with Cold Meat Industry's catalog at the turn of the millennium. When their existence began in Norrköping in 1998, they only had their demo to prove their existence, a one-sided tape of a mere 50 copies entitled “The Green Tape”. After catching the eye of Roger Karmanik, IRM saw their first official release through Cold Meat Industry the following year with The Red Album, an LP-only release featured on both black and pink wax. Their first CD release wasn't until the year after when Oedipus Dethroned was released and gave most of the power electronics underground a chance to hear the project, not only because of its CD release, but also because the album wasn't strictly limited. IRM would go on to work with CMI again twice in their career, but since that moment it has been mostly Leech (Navicon Torture Technologies)'s label Annihilvs

Skin Area : Rothko Field [2012]

I’ve known and enjoyed IRM-related project Skin Area’s work for a good many years. They excel in extreme, punishing noise and Power Electronics coupled with a Dark Ambient sensibility for sonic dynamics. This third album, now on Malignant Records, is something of a departure for them; while no less intense in concept or execution, this album journeys through No-Wave drone guitar noise with the solemnity of Black Metal, droning electronic waves, Industrial pounding, delicate melody, Power Electronics shouted vocals and softly-sung words.

So it’s not a stretch to say this is a deeply interesting album, a journey, a passage through a series of mental states and situations. Moving through the fields of influence of abstract sensations? Rothko is the kind of artist to evoke these wildly separated but fractally connected sensations; his imposing, overpowering blocks of colour that bore right into you, particularly in his commission pieces for the Four Seasons restaurant, match these monolithic but changeable feelings.
